How to say “Going or not going?” in Khmer
ទៅ ឬ មិនទៅ?
Tov rɨɨ min tov?
💡 ឬ (rɨː) is the disjunctive question particle meaning 'or'. In the A ឬ non-A pattern (go or not go?), it creates the Khmer equivalent of an English alternative question. This is also the standard way to ask 'Have you eaten or not?' — ញ៉ាំហើយ ឬ នៅ? The particle appears in choice questions too: កាហ្វេ ឬ តែ? (Coffee or tea?). Its vowel /rɨː/ is the rare Khmer vowel sound that causes most difficulty for English speakers — a back, unrounded vowel with no English equivalent.
